September is one of our favorite months on the farm. It’s Back to School season, football season, and the official start to fall. The mornings are misty, the air feels just a little cooler, and the gardens are overflowing with blooms. It’s the sweet spot between summer’s abundance and autumn’s golden glow.

Almost all puppies will be heading off to their new farms by the end of this month too. I will be savoring all the puppy love I can until they leave. They have been such an absolute joy to have on the farm!
Here’s what’s blooming right now at The Girls with the Farm:
Zinnias — cheerful, colorful, and endlessly giving
Cosmos — airy, whimsical, and perfect for softening any bouquet
Sunflowers — standing tall, bright, and strong as ever
Celosia — a fun, feathery texture to our bouquets
Dahlias are beginning to bloom, but with the weird spring and summer we’ve had, and even around the country, they are sloooow to grow. As the weather cools, they should start pumping out blooms! I can’t wait!
Every bouquet we create in September is different — a mix of whatever the field is offering on that particular day. That’s the beauty of locally grown flowers: they’re truly seasonal, fleeting, and unique.
✨ How to Enjoy September Flowers ✨
Place a bouquet where you’ll see it first thing in the morning (coffee table, kitchen counter, or even your desk). Keep it out of direct sunlight and ripe fruit!
Change the water daily to keep blooms fresh.
Snip the stems every couple of days to give them new life.
If you’re local, you can grab one of this week’s bouquets. Shoot us an email to get your bouquet ordered! We promise they’ll bring a little farm joy into your home. We will have a local place for pick ups in Hillsboro as requested!
Here’s to cooler mornings, colorful fields, and the first whispers of fall.
With gratitude,
Jess + Jess
